Qing Chinese Black and White Dog and Pup Jade Toggle Carving

A deep, rounded carving of black and white jade of a mother dog and her pup that is a testament to the jade carver's artistry.

 

The heavy, dense, and translucent two-tone jade has been carved into a mother dog with her pup, with the two dogs looking at each other. Both hold the lingzhi fungus in their mouth denoting longevity. Even the underside has good depth of carving to the legs and toenails. The carver used the black jade to form the pup. The carving is hand polished and has that nice soft appearance. It feels good in the hand.

 

The white jade has dark inclusions, and the black jade has areas that are a bit lighter. There is a hint of reddish-brown in the lingzhi fungus.

 

 

1 15/16” (4.9 cm) long x 15/16” (2.4 cm) wide x 1 1/16” (2.7 cm) tall. Weighs 1.57 oz (44.7 g)

 

 

There are no breaks, cracks, or chips. The jade has a soft, hand polish.

 

A very sentimental carving of mother and child. The use of the color in the design is really quite artistic.
