A heavy and sculptural pair of bookends that depict a swashbuckling pirate.

The pair of molded heavy metal bookends have been plated with a bright gold-colored bronze and then painted with enamels. The bookends depict a pirate in all his glory with feet on their pirate chests and swords at the ready. They have rectangular stepped bases. There was green felt on both, but one now has only remnants remaining.

They are unmarked. They were produced by the Pompeian Bronze Company of New York.

MEASUREMENTS

3 ½” (8.9 cm) wide x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) deep x 7 ½” (19.0 cm) tall. Weighs 3 lbs 2 oz (1450 g)

CONDITION

Both bookends have both enamel loss and wear to the bronze plating. The main loss is on the pirate's white shirts. The blue and red enamels have fared better. The felt on one bookend is missing and the other bookend has much wear on the felt. There are no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs.

A fun and heavy pair of bookends to add to a collection or use to hold up books.
