Greek Temple Single Bookend Mythological Frieze Circa 1925
Greek Temple Single Bookend Mythological Frieze Circa 1925
A detailed Greek temple bookend with the raised motif in the central panel of a Greek myth.
The design is of a columned Greek temple with a central panel depicting an attempted mythological abduction. There are steps up to the temple from the base. The back has a textured surface like it was hand hammered. The cast metal has been given a bronze patina. A copper color shows through in places like the roof and so the metal is likely a copper alloy. Alternatively, the copper might also be a patina as the insides looks more like a gray metal.
MEASUREMENTS
6 ¼” (15.9 cm) wide x 2” (5.1 cm) deep x 4 7/8” (12.4 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lbs 8.5 oz (1150 g)
CONDITION
There are no breaks, dents, or cracks. There is a chip on the front roof edge. The dark patina shows wear, revealing a copper color underneath, particularly on the edges. The base has no felt.
The deep molding on the central panel is very sculptural. A great bookend to use to hold up books. Useful and decorative.
