Cranberry Thumbnail Glass Poole Silverplate Pickle Caster

A bright and shiny silver plate pickle castor frame with a coordinating cranberry glass that shows the elegance of form and function from the Victorian era.

A heavy metal frame has been silver plated and has had a cranberry glass insert with a dimpled pattern fitted in. The glass jar has a matching silver plate lid with a wreath like finial. There is a handle on the frame side for a pair of elaborate shell like tongs. The base rim has a repousse garland design. The metal frame rests flat on a surface. The glass fits snugly in the frame and the lid fits snugly on the glass.

The bottom is marked with a trademark for Poole Silver Company, Quadruple plate, Taunton, Mass and the number "161"

Frame - 11” (28.0 cm) tall x 4” (10.2 cm) diameter.
Glass insert – 3 1/8” (7.9 cm) diameter x 4 ¼” tall (10.8 cm)
Weighs 1 lb 2.3 oz (515 g)

CONDITION

The frame has no dents and has a fair amount of silverplate left. It has shined up well. The platform that supports the glass has some pitting. One side of the glass insert has a crack. Please see the photo.
