A large decorative blue and white porcelain Chinese ginger jar from the mid 19th C. It is hand thrown, hand painted and heavy. The jar is decorated with scrolling lotus and double happiness characters in a nice deep cobalt under glaze blue. There is a key fret pattern at the mouth. The glazes feel very thick and very smooth. The glaze has a bluish cast. Although the dark lacquered wood jar lid is not original to the jar, it still has considerable age.
