A cake basket from the Art Nouveau period that is adorned with a repousse design of tulips on the basket rim and an octagonal repousse interior well. The pedestal is low with a rounded foot. The basket handle has floral scrolling with leaves at the rounded hinges.

A stamped mark on the center of the base reads “FORBES SILVER Co.” in a circle with the word QUADRUPLE below and a production number of 241. Forbes Silver Company was part of the Meriden Britannia Company (and later the International Silver Company).

MEASUREMENTS

9 ½” (24.1 cm) diameter x 9 ½” (24.1 cm) tall with handle extended. 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) tall with handle dropped. Weighs 1 lb 5.2 oz (625 g)

CONDITION

There are no breaks, dents, cracks, or repairs. There is wear and a long scratch in the central well. The silver mostly worn, although there is still some shine. It rests flat on a surface. The handle has difficulty standing up on its own.

A great piece to add to an Art Nouveau collection or to use for cakes at teatime.
