Antique French Brownies Child Plate Wm Guérin Limoge Circa 1900

A fun and colorful child's plate made in France with four hand painted brownies in different costumes.

The thinly- thin porcelain plate has been hand decorated with four different Brownie figures in different costumes. One is holding a spoon to show his small size. The plate has a lobed border and has a shallow unglazed foot. There is gilding on the mouth rim. The glaze used is very soft and shiny.

A green stamped mark on the base reads WG & C FRANCE. This is the trademark for William (Guillaume) Guérin of Limoge, France. This trademark was used between 1891 and 1900. Someone has handwritten in gold, “Robert Xmas ‘96’”.

MEASUREMENTS

5 3/8” (13.5 cm) x 5 3/8” (13.5 cm) x ¾” (1.9 cm) tall. Weighs 4.1 oz (115 g)

CONDITION

There are no cracks, breaks, chips. There is a small manufacture nick on the foot.  The enamels are in good condition. The gilding has wear but is still visible in most areas.
